About Carrie
I’m a teacher. That shapes every decision I’d make.
For 26 years, I've had the privilege of working in public schools, and I've seen firsthand the difference a strong school can make in a child's life. I've also seen how much work it takes to create schools where students, educators, and families can truly thrive.
As a 6th-grade science teacher, I'm in the classroom every day. I know the excitement of watching a student finally understand something that once seemed impossible. I also know the challenges that come with making sure every student has what they need to be successful. That classroom experience has shaped the way I think about schools, leadership, and the decisions we make on behalf of children.
I'm running for Newport School Committee because I care deeply about public education and about the community we are building together. I want to bring the perspective of a classroom teacher to the table — not because I have all the answers, but because I know how important it is to listen to the people who live and work in our schools every day.
What I’ll stand for
Four commitments, plainly stated.
No slogans. These are the principles I bring from 26 years of classroom experience, union leadership, and working with Newport families.
Students come first, every decision
The role of the School Committee is straightforward: make sure Newport students receive the best education we can provide. Every vote should be measured against what it does for a child in a classroom.
Give educators the tools to deliver it
If we expect educators to provide that education, they need the resources, support, and tools to do their jobs well. We cannot keep asking teachers to do more without making sure they have what they need to succeed.
Listen first, then decide together
The best solutions come from listening, asking questions, and working together. Students, families, educators, administrators, and community partners all belong in that conversation.
Public schools our community is proud of
Strong schools change lives, and they take real work to build. Newport deserves schools where students, educators, and families can genuinely thrive.
We cannot ask teachers to do more and more without making sure they have what they need to succeed.
